In an NYT op-ed, the first lady defends the gains her Let’s Move program has made in curbing childhood obesity. She argues against efforts currently underway in Congress to eliminate healthy food standards for school lunches and to add nutrient-light white potatoes to WIC. Our obligation to act against these policies, she argues, stem from a parent’s concern for the health and safety of their children:
“As parents, we always put our children’s interests first. We wake up every morning and go to bed every night worrying about their well-being and their futures. And when we make decisions about our kids’ health, we rely on doctors and experts who can give us accurate information based on sound science. Our leaders in Washington should do the same.”
Politicians should behave like parents and defend children’s health.
